Qualified in Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) for people with Parkinson's
Since 2015 I have run a specialised Voice Clinic treating adults and children with disorders in their throat or larynx (voice-box) with my surgical colleagues in Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT).
I was the Primary Investigator for my NHS Trust in a National Institute of Health Research funded trial into the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) for people with Parkinson’s Disease and have an MSc in Clinical Research.
Many of my patients use their voice for their work, e.g., teachers, performers and the religious and legal professions. I have also spent time supporting people recovering from treatment for head and neck cancer or who have had a stroke with the rehabilitation of their speech, voice and swallowing. Most recently I spent a year as the lead Speech and Language Therapist for Long Covid for a neighbouring NHS Trust.
Fundamental to my work is the principle that the diagnosis is only part of the picture. How we respond to our illness is made up of so many factors and has a fundamental impact to our recovery. In 2023 I completed a counselling qualification to support my work as a Speech and Language Therapist.
